Pyrolysis

Biomass is by its nature bulky and often difficult to handle.  Pyrolysis is a process by which biomass is heated and the gases cooled to produce a liquid which retains most of the energy of the original biomass.  This makes the biomass much easier to transport and utilize.

The resulting “pyoil” is a good substitute for residual fuel oil in heat and power applications.  Pyoil research is being conducted to upgrade the liquid into infrastructure ready fuels like jet fuel and diesel.

EverGreen is working with technology providers to develop this renewable fuel alternative for heat and power applications.
